The Wine & Dine Challenge is just around the corner, and with only one month to go, the excitement (and nerves!) really start to kick in. Whether this is your first RunDisney weekend or your fifth, these final four weeks are all about preparation, tapering smartly, and making sure you’re mentally and physically ready to enjoy the miles and the magic.
So, what should you be focusing on right now? Here’s a guide to keep you on track:
Training: Trust the Process
Tapering Begins Soon: You should be wrapping up your peak long runs. Around 3 weeks out, your mileage will start to taper—don’t panic, this is how your body recovers and gets stronger.
Stick to Your Plan: Now is not the time to try new workouts. Stay consistent with your running, cross-training, and stretching.
Practice Run-Walk Intervals: If you’re following Jeff Galloway (or another interval strategy), make sure you’re confident in your pacing.
Gear Check: No Surprises on Race Day
Run in What You’ll Race In: Shoes, socks, and clothes should be tested before race day. Break in nothing new on race morning.
Costume Trial Run: If you’re running in costume (because, Disney ✨), do at least one short run in it to make sure it’s comfortable.
Race Fuel Practice: Use your long runs to test the gels, chews, or hydration you’ll take during the race.
Nutrition & Hydration: Fuel for Success
Hydrate Now: Don’t wait until race weekend to start drinking water.
Balanced Meals: Focus on whole foods, lean proteins, and complex carbs. Avoid experimenting with fad diets in the weeks before the race.
Pre-Race Dinner Test: If pasta is your tradition, try it out now so you know how your body reacts.
Travel & Logistics: Plan Ahead
Book Dining & Transportation: Make sure you have your dining reservations, airport shuttles, or car rentals squared away.
Know the Race Maps: Familiarize yourself with start line procedures, corrals, and shuttle times.
Pack Early: Don’t leave costumes, running gear, or magic bands until the last minute.
Mindset: Run for Fun
Set Your Race Goals: Decide now—are you running for time, or running for fun?
Visualize Success: Picture yourself crossing the finish line, medal in hand, with Epcot’s food and wine waiting as your reward.
Remember Why You Signed Up: The challenge is tough, but it’s also magical—lean into the Disney energy!
